Comments :
Texels are used to built complex geometries (foliage, grass, fur, fabric, hair...) with a model looking like texture, with thickness. Good properties are in the computation time, the image quality (few aliasing), and more, the cost 'moralization' : cost is now linked to the visible detail amount, and no longer to the database detail amount.

Texels in interactive time (work done with Alexandre Meyer), considering a volume as a set of textured slices, which allow us to use the graphics hardware
(cf the detailled page, and the EWR'98 paper).

A single texel, before and after deformation (manipulations are done in real time):


Mapping on a plan and on a sphere, replresenting 13 million of virtual polygons. The display is done on O2 with a few images per seconds.
